Meet Our Dentists


Dr. Darby Barfield – Pediatric Dentist, Louisville clinic

Dr. Darby Barfield joined Dental Aid in September of 2003. She is a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist. She received her dental degree from the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. She then completed a two-year residency in Pediatric Dentistry at Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHC). Dr. Barfield treats children in Dental Aid’s Louisville clinic two days per week. In addition, Dr. Barfield treats children under general anesthesia at CHC on Wednesdays. Email

Dr. Maura Darnieder – Dentist, Louisville clinic

Dr. Maura Darnieder joined the Dental Aid staff in 2017. She graduated from Marquette University School of Dentistry with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. She volunteered in the university’s pediatric dental clinic before joining Dental Aid. While earning her undergrad from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she founded a branch of Operation Smile, an international medical charity that has provided hundreds of thousands of free surgeries for children and young adults in developing countries who are born with a cleft lip or palate, or other facial deformities.  Email

Dr. Wayne Franz graduated from the University of Colorado School of Dentistry in 1979. After receiving his dental degree he practiced in the U.S. Navy for four years. Dr. Franz then opened his own practice in Louisville CO. Dr. Franz joined Dental Aid in 2011. He sees patients three days per week in Dental Aid’s Longmont clinic. Email

Dr. Joy Hicks joined Dental Aid in April of 2014. She graduated from University of Pennsylvania School of Oral Medicine, receiving her DMD in 2010. Dr. Hicks followed dental school with a General Practice Residency. She completed the residency in 2011. Dr. Hicks practiced for three years before joining Dental Aid. Email

Dr. Molly Johnson earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine.  While in dental school, Dr. Johnson was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, dentistry’s national honor society.  Dr.Johnson also holds a Master’s degree in Accounting.  Dr. Johnson joined Dental Aid in the spring of 2015 and practices two days a week in the Louisville clinic. Email

Dr. Jose Mena graduated from Tufts School of Oral Medicine in Boston. After receiving his dental degree, he completed a two-year dental residency in General Dentistry in Louisiana. Dr. Mena joined Dental Aid in August of 2006. Dr. Mena practices four days per week in Dental Aid’s Boulder clinic. Email

Dr. James Monk – General Dentist, Longmont & Louisville clinics

Dr. Jim Monk received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Colorado School of Dentistry in 1984. Dr. Monk worked for Dental Aid from 1984 through 1987 while building his own private practice. Dr. Monk provided services through his private practice in Boulder for 29 years. Dr. Monk rejoined Dental Aid in 2014. He also is a Member of the State Board for the Dentists Liability Trust representing the Boulder/Broomfield Dental Association. Email

Dr. Van Hilsen joined Dental Aid in 2016. He graduated from the University of the Pacific in San Francisco and completed a two-year Pediatric Dental Residency at the University of Minnesota. Before joining Dental Aid, he worked with experienced pediatric dentists treating children with extensive dental needs in El Paso, TX, and in private practice. Email

Dr. Judd received his dental degree from Loma Linda University. He then entered into a postgraduate residency in orthodontics at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Judd joined Dental Aid after completing his residency. Dr. Judd’s professional accomplishments include two first place research awards, one in the scientific category and the second in the clinical research category. Dr. Judd is a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. Dr. Judd is the orthodontist dedicating his full time service to the underserved in Colorado’s oral health safety net.  Email

Dr. Lonnie Sibley – Oral Surgeon, Boulder clinic

Dr. Lonnie Sibley is an oral surgeon at the end of a very successful career.  He practiced for 40+ years in Boulder. When he sold his practice he came to us. We did not reach out to him. He said he wanted to close out his career giving back to the community and asked if Dental Aid had any need of his services. It is a neat story. Email

Ana Andrick, RDH, received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Hygiene at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in 1997. Ana brought her 15 years of clinical experience to Dental Aid in 2013. Ana now serves Dental Aid patients in our Longmont clinic. Email

Eve Beaumont – Boulder clinic

Eve Beaumont, RDH, joined Dental Aid on September 30, 2015. Eve received her degree from Lewis and Clark Community College in December of 2014. She has supplemented her degree with clinical hours in a variety of settings including the Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center in St. Louis. Email



Maliheh Jabbari Community based

Maliheh Jabbari, RDH, received her certificate in dental hygiene from the Forsyth School for Dental Hygienists in 1998, and an associate’s degree from Boston’s Northeastern University the same year.  Maliheh’s professional and gentle approach is one of the reasons patients of all ages—toddlers to seniors – benefit from her care.  Email.

Junia Klatt, RDH, graduated from Argosy University of Health Sciences in 2011. Junia joined Dental Aid in early 2013. Junia has been providing excellent care to Dental Aid patients since that time and cares for Dental Aid patients in the Louisville clinic. Email

Hillary Norberg, RDH, received her bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene from the University of Colorado School of Dentistry in 2008. Ms. Norberg has practiced dental hygiene at Dental Aid since May of 2013.  She is a major contributor to establishing and maintaining the oral health of clients at Dental Aid’s Boulder clinic and in the community at Boulder County Mental Health Partners.  Email


Sarah Renfro BVSD community

Sarah Renfro, RDH, joined Dental Aid in 2017 (2016??). She received her degree from Rose State College in Oklahoma City. In addition to her vast experience she can now add the placement of Interim Therapeutic Restorations and the administration of local anesthetics to the services she offers her patients. Sarah now supports at risk children attending Boulder Valley School District elementary schools. Email


Dental Aid Administration

Dennis Lewis –President & CEO

Since 2010, Dennis Lewis has been Dental Aid’s President & CEO. Dennis began his professional career in the public sector in 1979. Over the last 30 years, he has been in private practice, served on the faculty of a dental school, and worked in multiple safety net dental clinics. His highest satisfaction is when he is treating and advocating for vulnerable populations. In addition to his work at Dental Aid, Dennis represents oral health on the Caring for Colorado Board of Directors and on the State Medical Assistance and Services Advisory Council. He also served as chair of the Evidence Based Dentistry Committee for the National Network for Oral Health Access, and the State Medicaid Advisory Council. Dennis obtained Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemistry and Biology from the University of Northern Colorado before attending the University of Colorado School of Dentistry. Email

Carolyn Solseth – Chief Financial Officer

Carolyn joined Dental Aid in January 2012. Carolyn has over 25 years of accounting and finance experience and has worked with non-profits in several different capacities over the years. Her most recent position was Senior Director of Accounting for the American Humane Association. She holds an active CPA license and has a BBA from the University of Texas and an MBA in Accounting from the University of Colorado. She is a member of the American Institute of CPA’s and the Colorado Society of CPA’s. She also serves on the Board of Directors of Trampled Rose, Inc., a non-profit organization that works to assist women in Ethiopia. Email

Claudia Merjil – Vice President of Operations

Claudia joined Dental Aid in 2003 as a receptionist and trained to be a dental assistant. In 2009 she became a clinic manager for the Longmont clinic. She has grown within Dental Aid and now oversees the clinic management of all three clinics. Claudia understands all functions of a dental practice and is a valuable asset to the leadership of Dental Aid. Before moving to Colorado she attended the University of Texas in El Paso. Email
